How to Reach

The most cost effective way to reach Srinagar is to take a train. However, the closest stop is Jammu, which is around 290 kilometers away. Hence, you will have to take a taxi to your final destination. Your other option is to take a flight. There are regular flights from Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh. There are also many tourist buses that offer you a round tour of multiple states, including Kashmir.

When you visit Srinagar, the first thing you should do is see the Dal Lake. This is the most famous tourist destination in the city. The lake is filled with a number of beautiful houseboats, slowly bobbing up and down. You can also choose to spend the night on these boats. Once you are there, you should take a ride on a Shikara, which is a small wooden boat and experience the joys of the floating markets or have a meal at a floating restaurant.

Other popular destinations include the Mughal Gardens, Nagin Lake, Wular Lake. You should also visit Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden which has the largest collection of blooming tulips in all of Asia. If you are planning to visit during October, you must drive past the Saffron fields of Pamore.
